Centum Investment Company Plc has agreed to sell Sidian Bank Limited ('Sidian') to Access Bank Plc for KES4.3 billion. In the near future, Sidian will be merged with Access Bank's Kenyan unit, resulting in a stronger financial entity better positioned to serve the Kenyan market. The transaction is subject to the receipt of customary regulatory approvals in Nigeria and Kenya.

Following Zambia, Kenya is investigating the possibility of a digital currency
Kenya’s central bank has asked the public to share their thoughts on the possibility of adopting a digital currency by May 20th, just one day after it was revealed that Zambia is also testing its viability. Nigeria was the first African country to launch its central bank digital currency (CBDC), dubbed the eNaira, in October last year, while Ghana is said to be nearing completion of its e-cedi launch. In addition, the Bank of Zambia is conducting research on digital currencies. CBDCs, unlike cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, are created by central banks and are pegged to national currencies.

Health tech startup mPharma acquires Vine Pharmacy, enters Uganda
mPharma, a Ghanaian health startup, has taken a controlling stake in Uganda’s Vine Pharmacy for an undisclosed amount, marking the firm’s entry into its latest market in Africa. mPharma disclosed to TechCrunch that it has acquired a 55 percent stake previously held by the Abraaj Group, a private equity firm that collapsed after investors, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, sounded an alarm over the administration of its $1 billion healthcare fund. Abraaj bought Vine Pharmacy in 2013 when it was the largest pharmacy chain in Uganda.
