The South African Startup Ecosystem Report 2022 & Full Startup List
The publication finds that at least 490 tech startups were in operation across South Africa as of May 2022, employing over 11,000 people between them. Fintech is the most populated sector, with almost one-third of the country’s tech startups active in that vertical. Over 25 per cent of South African tech startups have undergone some form of acceleration or incubation, though diversity is an issue as less than 15 per cent have a female co-founder.

The team's first goal was to create an online community to promote discussions about Africa's future, but they quickly realized that more was required and began an evolution process. The Future Africa fund, which will be offered to co-investors in April 2020, is a critical component of this strategy.

African tech startup funding passes $1bn in first 2 months of 2022
African tech startups raised more than US$1 billion in the first two months of 2022, more than half the amount raised in the entirety of 2021. Investment into the African tech startup ecosystem trebled over the course of a record-breaking 2021 that saw total funding pass the US$2 billion – and indeed the US$1 billion – mark for the first time. The seventh edition of Disrupt Africa’s annual African Tech Startups Funding Report found 564 startups raised a combined US$2,148,517,500 in 2021, but that record is already well on the way to being beaten in 2022.
