The UCI Road World Championships is an annual event organized by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) for bicycle road racing. The event consists of events for road race and individual time trial, and as of 2019 a mixed team relay.

The 2025 UCI Road World Championships will be held in Kigali, Rwanda, from September 21 to 28, 2025. 

🛩️This will be the first time that the UCI Road World Championships have been held in Africa.

• The event will feature a variety of road cycling disciplines, including the road race, time trial, individual time trial, and team time trial. The championships are expected to attract over 5,000 cyclists and 20,000 delegates from around the world.

The UCI Road World Championships are the most prestigious cycling event in the world. 

• They are held every two years and are a major test of the world’s best cyclists. The 2025 championships are expected to be a major event for Rwanda and for Africa as a whole.

The Tour du Rwanda is a prominent cycling race and one of Africa’s largest, attracting professional cyclists from around the world. Cycling is the second most popular sport in Rwanda, and bicycles are a symbol of unity and peace in the country.

Bikepacking racing around Rwanda 🇷🇼

The Race Around Rwanda is an ultra distance bikepacking race in the hills of Rwanda.

The race covers 1000 km and over 18.000 meters of elevation, often at high altitude with about 25% over 2000 meters of elevation.
This is a off-road race, even though more than half of the race is on incredibly smooth tarmac.
The off-road sections (see more about them later in this guide) are of variable quality, some are “roller skating smooth”, others might make you wish you brought a MTB instead of a gravel bike.

Due to the heavy rains in Rwanda and the amazing government effort to repair roads continuously, it is hard to predict the quality of the roads for each edition. We will recce the full course shortly before the event and give you the latest update on the gravel quality during the briefing.

Race Around Rwanda is an exploration of one of the most special countries in the world. A country where cycling is the main mode of transportation, and where you will have supporters on every corner of the road.
