U.S.-Africa Frontiers Program: Advancing Collaboration in Science, Engineering, and Medicine


The U.S.-Africa Frontiers Program is a unique initiative that unites outstanding young scientists, engineers, and medical professionals from the United States and African Union member countries. Through a series of engaging symposia, participants will explore exciting advancements, share insights, and identify opportunities for research collaboration. This program fosters scientific exchange among young researchers in Africa and the U.S., including the African science diaspora, to build lasting partnerships and drive impactful innovations.


Key Features:

  • Multidisciplinary Focus: The program includes five plenary sessions highlighting groundbreaking advancements across various fields.
  • Collaboration Opportunities: Facilitates connections within and beyond the region to enhance scientific dialogue and cooperation.


Eligibility Criteria


To participate, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be an emerging leader in science, engineering, or medicine with a terminal degree. Professionals from industry, academia, public service, non-profits, and other sectors are welcome (students are not eligible).
  2. Have completed their highest degree within the last 15 years (typically at the assistant/associate professor level or equivalent in non-academic roles).
  3. Possess professional proficiency in English.
  4. Be employed in the U.S. or an African Union member country (citizenship of the country of residence is not required).
  5. Demonstrate recognizable contributions to advancing their field through research or technical work.
  6. Show interest in developments across disciplines and how innovations in other fields can inform their own work.
  7. Conduct research with a strong potential for developmental impact in the U.S. and/or Africa, such as participation in scientific projects, meetings, or contributions to the promotion of science and technology in society.
